Tag: Black Friday counter displays

Black Friday has become one of the biggest retail opportunities of the year for Australian stores, brands and suppliers. In 2026, Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November, followed by Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November.auspost.com+1

For retailers, the challenge is not simply offering a discount. It is making sure customers actually see the offer, understand it quickly and can easily find the promoted products in-store. That is where Black Friday retail displays can make a real difference.

Custom cardboard point-of-sale displays help create visible promotional zones for sale items, gift ranges, bundles, new product launches and high-volume stock. From floor displays and counter units to pallet displays and dump bins, the right display can help turn a standard Black Friday promotion into an organised, high-impact retail campaign.

Why Black Friday retail displays matter

Black Friday is now firmly established as a major shopping event in Australia. In 2025, the Australian Retailers Association and Roy Morgan forecast that Australians would spend $6.8 billion across the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, with around 6 million Australians expected to shop the sales.abc.net+1

This level of demand creates major opportunity, but it also creates more retail noise. Customers are exposed to sale messages across websites, social media, emails, catalogues and stores. When they walk into a physical retail location, a well-placed point-of-sale display can help products stand out from the rest of the store.

Black Friday displays can help retailers:

• Highlight sale products in high-traffic areas

• Create clear promotional zones

• Make price-led offers easier to understand

• Encourage impulse purchases

• Support gift buying ahead of Christmas

• Group related products into bundles

• Move slow-moving or excess stock

• Refresh retail space for a major sale campaign

What are Black Friday retail displays?

Black Friday retail displays are promotional units used to showcase discounted, bundled or featured products during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales period.

They can be positioned near store entrances, aisle ends, checkouts, promotional bays and other high-traffic areas. The goal is to give sale products their own destination in the store, rather than leaving them mixed into standard shelving.

Cardboard displays are particularly suited to Black Friday because they can be custom designed around the campaign, product dimensions and store environment. They can also be printed with brand colours, promotional messaging and product imagery to create a stronger visual impact.

10 Black Friday retail display ideas

1. Create a high-impact entrance display

A store entrance is one of the best places to make customers aware of a Black Friday promotion. A large floor display can immediately communicate that the store is running a sale and direct customers toward featured products.

Use this type of display for:

• Major sale categories

• New Black Friday deals

• Best-selling products

• Christmas gift ideas

• Large product bundles

• Limited-time promotional stock

Keep the offer simple. Customers should be able to understand what is being promoted within a few seconds of entering the store.

2. Use cardboard floor displays for hero products

A floor display is ideal for products that need more visibility than they would receive on a standard shelf. It can be used to create a focal point for a single hero product, a product range or a Black Friday bundle.

Floor displays can work well for:

• Homewares

• Gift packs

• Beauty and personal-care products

• Toys and games

• Food and beverage products

• Hardware and trade products

• Electronics accessories

• Seasonal stock

For Black Friday, a floor display should be placed where customers naturally move through the store, such as an entry zone, aisle end or major feature area.

3. Build a Black Friday dump bin for sale stock

Dump bins are a practical option for high-volume products, lower-priced items and clearance stock. They encourage customers to browse and can create a sense of value and urgency when used as part of a clear sale campaign.

Black Friday dump bins can be used for:

• End-of-line stock

• Promotional products

• Seasonal accessories

• Multi-buy products

• Soft goods

• Boxed items

• Sale items under a specific price point

• Gift products and stocking fillers

To keep the display effective, focus on one product category or one clear offer per bin. A crowded selection of unrelated products can make a promotion feel less organised.

4. Create a “gifts under” display zone

Black Friday is closely connected to early Christmas gift buying. A price-point display makes it easier for customers to shop quickly and stay within budget.

Popular options include:

• Gifts under $10

• Gifts under $20

• Gifts under $50

• Gifts under $100

• Secret Santa gifts

• Teacher gifts

• Office gifts

• Stocking fillers

A custom cardboard display can group these products into a clear gift-buying destination, helping customers browse by price rather than searching across multiple departments.

5. Use counter displays for impulse purchases

Counter displays are ideal for small products that customers can add to their purchase while waiting to pay. During Black Friday, these displays can support low-cost sale items, add-on products and gift-ready items.

Suitable counter-display products include:

• Gift cards

• Confectionery

• Cosmetics

• Small beauty products

• Stationery

• Phone accessories

• Batteries

• Small toys

• Travel products

• Novelty items

A Black Friday counter display should have a clear message and be easy to browse in a few seconds.

6. Turn bundles into a single purchase decision

Bundling related products together can help increase the value of a Black Friday purchase and make gift buying easier.

Examples of effective bundles include:

• Skincare gift sets

• Food and beverage packs

• Pet product bundles

• Home entertaining packs

• Kids activity packs

• Beauty and fragrance packs

• Hardware starter packs

• Travel accessory kits

Instead of relying on customers to find each item separately, a custom display can present the bundle as one complete solution.

7. Use pallet displays for high-volume promotions

Pallet displays are designed for large promotional campaigns, bulk stock and warehouse-style retail environments. They are ideal for Black Friday promotions where the retailer has significant product volume and wants to create a bold in-store feature.

Pallet displays can be used for:

• Bulk gift sets

• High-volume food and beverage products

• Toys and games

• Boxed products

• Household goods

• Larger seasonal items

• Supplier-funded promotions

• Major clearance lines

A pallet display works best when it is well-stocked, easy to shop and supported by clear promotional messaging.

8. Design a display for a limited-time offer

Black Friday promotions are time-sensitive. Creating a display around a limited-time offer can help reinforce urgency and make it clear that shoppers should act before the promotion ends.

Examples include:

• Black Friday weekend offer

• While stocks last

• Three-day sale

• Limited-edition bundle

• Exclusive in-store offer

• Buy more and save

• Gift with purchase

• Limited release product

Avoid cluttered messaging. Use one main offer, one strong visual theme and a clear product presentation.

9. Place promotional displays near complementary products

Display placement can influence how customers discover and add products to their basket. Positioning sale displays near related product categories can help increase cross-selling opportunities.

Examples include:

• Gift wrap near gift products

• Batteries near toys

• Accessories near electronics

• Serving products near food and beverages

• Beauty accessories near skincare

• Storage solutions near homewares

• Pet accessories near pet food

This approach can help customers find useful add-ons while keeping the retail journey simple.

10. Plan the Black Friday-to-Christmas transition

Black Friday should not be treated as a one-off campaign. It is also one of the first major opportunities to capture Christmas shoppers.

After the Black Friday promotion ends, the display can be updated for:

• Christmas gift ideas

• Gift sets

• Last-minute gifts

• Stocking fillers

• Holiday entertaining

• Summer products

• Boxing Day clearance

• New Year sale stock

Planning this transition in advance can help retailers get more value from the same floor space and display infrastructure across the full seasonal sales period.

Choosing the right Black Friday display format

The best display depends on the products being promoted, the amount of space available and the goal of the campaign.

Why custom cardboard displays work for Black Friday

Custom cardboard displays provide a flexible way to create a Black Friday campaign without investing in permanent store fixtures.

They can be designed around:

• Product size and weight

• Number of products on display

• Retailer requirements

• Store layout

• Brand colours and campaign artwork

• Black Friday sale messaging

• Christmas gift positioning

• Quantity required for single-store or multi-store rollouts

• Delivery timing and promotional deadlines

For a business launching a new product, promoting a gift range or clearing stock before Christmas, a bespoke display can give the campaign a stronger physical presence at the point of purchase.

Black Friday retail display checklist

Before launching a Black Friday campaign, check that you have:

• Identified the key products or sale categories

• Confirmed the promotional dates

• Chosen a clear headline offer

• Selected the right display format

• Confirmed the display location in-store

• Measured available floor, counter or pallet space

• Considered product weight, size and replenishment requirements

• Prepared campaign artwork and branding

• Planned delivery and installation before the sale starts

• Created a plan to refresh the display for Christmas or Boxing Day

When should retailers plan Black Friday displays?

Retailers should start planning Black Friday displays well before November. September and October are the best months to finalise the display concept, product selection, artwork, quantities and delivery requirements.

Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026, and many retailers now extend the sales period beyond a single day. Planning early gives businesses time to create a display that supports the promotion properly, rather than relying on a last-minute solution.auspost.com+1

Early planning also helps make sure Black Friday stock, Christmas gift products and display materials arrive in time for the campaign.
